Claudia specialises in preparing and navigating applications through Australia's foreign investment regime, in addition to advising clients on the application of the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act 1975 and foreign investment policy to their investments.

Claudia joined KWM from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB), within the Commonwealth Department of the Treasury.

Through her experience at FIRB, Claudia has detailed knowledge of the foreign investment application process, timeframes, sensitive areas and concerns for FIRB as well as the relationships between FIRB and the ministerial decision makers. Having worked as a case officer also assists Claudia in drafting materials that can be easily understood and processed by FIRB, to avoid unnecessary delays. 

Relevant Experience

  • Government processes: Detailed knowledge of the foreign investment process and internal workings of FIRB, as well as Australian Government processes and briefings more broadly due to her additional experience in the Department of the Treasury’s tax policy group, Freedom of Information team and Victorian Government.
  • Privatisation proposals: Experience at KWM acting for bidders seeking to invest in State Government services.
  • Renewable energy: Providing advice on the application of the foreign investment regime to renewable energy proposals. She also focused on renewable energy proposals during her last year at FIRB, and has detailed insights into the sensitivities of energy proposals for the Government.
  • Security of Critical Infrastructure: Claudia has provided detailed advice on the application of the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 and its interaction with the foreign investment legislation.
