Newmont Corporation: advising longstanding KWM core client, Newmont, on Newmont’s successful takeover of Newcrest Mining Limited by scheme of arrangement. The landmark acquisition constituted Australia’s biggest M&A deal of 2023 (to date), valuing the acquired company (Newcrest) at A$26 billion and expanding Newmont’s market capitalisation to over A$65 billion. The transaction reinforced the position of Newmont as the world’s pre-eminent gold mining company.
AEMO Services: on the first (and subsequent) tender for Long-Term Energy Service Agreements (LTESAs) under the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. This is a series of tenders up to 2030, which is projected to underpin a ~$32billion wave of private capital investment to transition the NSW electricity system from coal fired generation. The NSW Roadmap is a comprehensive plan to facilitate the new transmission, generation, storage and firming assets required for a predominantly renewables based system.
