King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has advised Infigen on its agreement with TransGrid to dispatch the Wallgrove Grid Battery, a 50MW/75MWh battery energy storage system powered by Tesla's recently introduced Megapack battery technology.
The storage system will be constructed at Wallgrove substation in New South Wales and will be maintained by TransGrid under a 10-year agreement. Under the agreement Infigen will retain dispatch control over the battery and will receive all spot market revenue from its operations, including energy arbitrage and revenue from all eight FCAS markets. It is expected to commence commercial operation in the second half of 2021.
The KWM team advising on the deal was led by projects partners Dominic Bortoluzzi and Craig Rogers. They were supported by senior associate Tim Sumner and solicitor Prateek Choudhary.
Commenting on the transaction, Dominic said: "We are delighted to have once again partnered with Infigen to assist them in continuing to build their fast-start firming portfolio. KWM has worked with Infigen on a number of clean energy and fast-start firming projects, including most recently their 25 year lease of 4 x 30MW fast-start gas generators from the South Australian Government.
