Mr. Shantanu Surpure is a US, UK and India admitted corporate lawyer with broad experience in cross-border legal matters. Mr. Surpure is experienced in representing venture capital and private equity funds, emerging growth companies, family offices and entrepreneurs in corporate, M&A, venture capital/private equity financings and capital markets transactions, including in the technology, mobile, media, internet, fintech and renewable energy sectors.

Mr. Surpure is a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE) and a co-founder of Mumbai Angels, which is India’s leading angel investment group. He is also a frequent speaker regarding cross border M&A, venture capital/private equity and entrepreneurship having spoken at Harvard, Stanford, Columbia Law School, Wharton (Wharton India Economic Forum) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). He has also been quoted by and/or had articles published in Forbes, Reuters, International Financial Law Review, Asian Venture Capital Journal, The Economic Times and India Business Law Journal. 

Work Experience

Mr. Surpure joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2019. Prior to joining King & Wood Mallesons, Mr. Surpure was previously an associate with several international law firms in Silicon Valley, Singapore and London before running his own leading cross border corporate law practice between Silicon Valley and Mumbai. Mr. Surpure was also an Articles Editor of the Columbia Journal of Asian Law and previously served as a Director of the Columbia Law School Association.

Mr. Surpure holds a BA Magna cum Laude from Brown University (with junior year at the London School of Economics), an MA Jurisprudence from Oxford University (where he won the Gilbert Murray Trust Award) and a JD from Columbia Law School (with a Certificate of Achievement from Columbia Law School’s Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law). Mr. Surpure also holds a Certificate in Public International Law from the Hague Academy of International Law at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Mr. Surpure is admitted to practice in California, New York, Nevada, India and England and Wales.

Mr. Surpure ’s working languages are English, Hindi and Marathi and he is conversational in Mandarin.
