Areas of practice
Wang Rongkang is a senior partner in investment and M&A, and specialises in FDI, M&A, including overseas acquisition, cross-border investments, overseas IPOs, PE and fund management.
He has extensive experience gained from many years of advising major multinational companies and Chinese enterprises on their cross-border projects. As part of his practice, Rongkang has helped many international businesses set up their businesses in China, including via representative offices, wholly foreign owned enterprises, equity joint ventures or cooperative joint ventures for foreign investors. Clients praise Rongkang's ability to guide them through their growth and expansion stages in China, including through mergers with and/or acquisitions of Chinese enterprises; restructuring of Chinese enterprises, overseas investments, overseas M&A and overseas IPOs of Chinese enterprises.
Rongkang's experience includes working with clients across a wide range of sectors, including wholesale and retail, logistics, high-tech industry, pharmacy, chemical industry, telecommunications, electronics, energy, real estate and infrastructure and public utilities (including public transportation, water supply, container ports, metros and highways) and service industry.
In the past years, Rongkang has been highly recognised by a number of global well-known legal media with many awards. Rongkang has been ranked as the Corporate /Commercial Leading Lawyer in China (Guangdong Province) by Chambers Asia Pacific for several years.
Rongkang has been named in The Lawyer Hot 100 2019. Rongkang's inclusion in "The Lawyer Hot 100 2019: Leader" is for demonstrating leadership skills.
Work experience
Rongkang joined King & Wood Mallesons in 1998. Rongkang is currently a member of KWM International Management Committee and KWM China Management Committee. He is also Chair of KWM China Finance Committee.
Rongkang's first degree was a Bachelor of Arts obtained at the Beijing Second Foreign Languages Institute (now known as the Beijing International Studies University). He then attended Peking University where he achieved his graduate diploma in International Politics & International Cultural Communications and an LL.M. Following this, Rongkang attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA as a visiting scholar in 1994-1995 and was then trained at Golden Gate University School of Law, California, USA. He then broadened his professional knowledge at the Southwest University of Political Science and Law, achieving his Ph.D.
Rongkang is proficient in Chinese and English.
