Since the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was proposed in 2013, King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has provided comprehensive legal services for clients in a large number of BRI projects, including investment, financing and dispute resolution. We have set foot in the vast majority of the BRI countries and regions, following the footprints of our clients. Our services span such industries as energy, minerals, transportation, information and other core infrastructure sectors, as well as key industries for BRI construction, such as finance, manufacturing and services.

To fully integrate KWM's professional capabilities in international projects development and construction, international investment and financing, cross-border M&A, international arbitration, and dispute resolution, KWM has recently established the International Projects Group. The new group focuses on the firm’s business in key regions of the BRI, aiming to deliver more comprehensive, precise, and high-quality integrated cross-border legal services for Chinese enterprises venturing abroad and better serve the joint BRI construction.

Wang Junfeng, Global Chairman of KWM, stated, "The establishment of the International Projects Group is a significant step in KWM's internationalisation development strategy. It reflects our continuous enhancement of the depth and breadth of our cross-border integrated legal services. Through our global network and unique strengths, we will continue to provide strong legal support for Chinese enterprises 'going global', contributing Chinese lawyers' wisdom to the global expansion of Chinese enterprises and the BRI construction.

The International Projects Group consists of two practice sub-groups: International Investment, Financing & Projects, and Cross-border Dispute Resolution. The group will bring together KWM's professional teams in various fields, efficiently mobilising KWM's global legal resources and collaborating with the KWM Belt & Road Centre for International Cooperation and Facilitation (BRCICF). Through these joint efforts, the new group is well positioned to provide full-spectrum, one-stop and high-quality legal services for all parties involved in the construction of the BRI. Led by Global Chief Operating Officer Rupert Li, the management team of the group consists of Huang Jianwen, Director-in-Chief of KWM BRCICF, and partners Tian Wenjing, Jessica Fei and Qian Yaozhi. Zhang Yi, the lead partner of the International Cooperation and Promotion Committee of KWM China Management Committee, is responsible for holistic coordination for promoting the development of the group.

Zhang Yi commented, "As a staunch supporter and active participant in the BRI, KWM is committed to providing clients with seamless services across the entire industry chain of cross-border transactions through our global network and professional teams. The establishment of International Projects Group will further consolidate our leading position in the BRI legal services sector."
